Another haunted building with a legacy of fright is the Seymour Place, now run by GoArt. Built in 1831, this place was originally a bank, west of the Genesee River. In 1887, the board members of the bank turned the place into a private men's club. In 2002, GoArt acquired the building.
This building is home to many spirits. One chilling example is a 6’ 2’’ man dressed in 1860s clothing who frequents the bar area. Rumor has it this spirit has been seen accompanied by the pungent smell of cigar smoke.
Executive director of GoArt, Gregory Hellock, has said there’s a history of happenings that occurred stemming from its history as a men’s club and a bank, and the history of the land the building was built on. “There’s rumors of it being part of the Underground Railroad, and there are different spirits from all of those happenings,” Hellock said.
Every Friday night since the beginning of the Halloween season, guests take hour-long tours to investigate the spirits which are said to possess the house.
